Whilst many companies and employers recognise the value and importance of ensuring their workforce remains healthy and happy, the challenge is often around how to put this ‘ethos’ into practice in a meaningful and impactful way. The Welldoing approach addresses this challenge; it enables employers to go beyond the scope of more traditional bolt-on wellbeing strategies, instead directly addressing wellbeing through the ways in which we work.
An increasing number of school-aged students are struggling with their mental health – 1 in 6 children aged five to 16 were identified as having a probable mental health problem in July 2020 (Young Minds, 2021). Wellbeing is therefore frequently highlighted as something that young people should be aware of and look after through, for example, regular exercise, healthy eating, and mindfulness practices.
Addiction is the need for a substance or behaviour that feels out of control. It is a habit that involves the building up tolerance, often experienced as always needing more to feel satisfied. Addiction affects both the brain and the body, seriously disrupting people's efforts to live a satisfying life. Addiction is a subjective illness that may affect each of us in different ways.
